LOWTEK
Born
in the summer of 2002, LowTek started off a joint project
between Garvan Power and Jens Kroenert. Refusing to settle into
any one style or form, the pair attempted to push the boundaries
of hardcore as much as possible. At heart, LowTek is a mix of
raw industrial and hardcore, but Garvan and Jen's style and
sound is
definately their own. Their driving, and energetic live shows
has won them widespread acclaim across the hardcore community.
Inspired by everything from ebm to the old PCP style, to
modern sounding
hardcore, LowTek draw influence from the harsher, darker side
of all electronic music. To date LowTek have released on
labels such
as Industrial Strength, Bastard Loud Records, and Black Monolith Records,
as well as appearing on Thunderdome, Hellbound and BioMechanik
compilations.

Name : Jens Kroenert
Age : 26
Nationality : German
Jens has been listening to techno and hardcore since around 1992.
However, his musical tastes also include Black and Death metal,
with Dimmu Borgir, Emperor and Morgul being some of this favorites.
Within the hardcore scene, the likes of DOA, Industrial Strength,
Nordcore, and the PCP style really caught his attention. Jens began
to create his own music around 1995, starting first with the classic
Amiga 500, before moving onto a 16 track software drum computer
on his PC, accompanied by various software synths and samples.
1995 also saw the formation of Jen's first ever live techno act,
'The Napalm Couple'. They managed quite a few gigs
using two amiga's, vinyl, cd's, and lots of back-up disks.
Following on from this, Jens next development was his gabba/speedcore
project, 'JENSEN'. Hitting beats of nearly 700 bpm with some tracks,
JENSEN's sound is not for the faint of heart. JENSEN recently played
live at the Intra Hearing festival in Zurich, Switzerland, to a
frenzied response from the crowd. Jen's also secured his first
release under this title on the famous Industrial Strength Records,
run by the legendary
Lenny Dee - 'JENSEN vs LOWTEK' ISR053
Along with his work as JENSEN, Jen's has recently teamed up with
Irish industrial / electronic producer, Garvan Power, to form the
project, LOWTEK. Moving away from the sheer tempo of his work as
JENSEN, LOWTEK take on a more harder, driving sound, mixing hardcore
and industrial into a very unique and distinctive style.
Name : Garvan Power
Age : 27
Nationality : Irish
Garvan's first big musical influences came from
the nineties explosion of thrash metal. Listening to the likes
of Sepultura, Slayer, and Pantera lead him to buying a guitar for
himself, and the desire to write
some of his own music. When he heard the likes of Ministry and Nine
Inch Nails, is when he really found a sound that appealed to him.
The
pure aggression of this industrial-metal-dance fusion opened up
all sorts of possiblities for him. Trading guitars for sequencers
and keyboards, he began to produce his own style of electronic
music.
It wasn't until he teamed up with Karl Milne in 2000 and formed
D:V:ANT, that he really settled on a sound. D:V:ANT recorded two
CD's, the D:V:ANT E.P., and Evolution, and rather quickly established
themselves on the Dublin dance music scene, with their hard edged
dance industrial tunes, and high energy live shows. To date D:V:ANT
have played with the likes of Chris Liberator, Dave the Drummer
and Lenny Dee.
While D:V:ANT went on hold for recording, Garvan continued to play
the club scene, doing hard techno DJ sets, and eventually set up
his own club, FLUX. In early 2003, Garvan and Jen's hooked up,
and discussed various ideas about setting up a new live project.
Shortly after, LOWTEK was
born. Three months later, Industrial Strength Records signed both
'JENSEN' and 'LOWTEK'. Currently, they had two CD's recorded, 'Core',
and more recently, 'Bassbound'. September 1st 2003 will see the
release of the 6 track double vinyl, 'JENSEN vs LOWTEK'.
LOWTEK have already established themselves on the Dublin hardcore
scene, having played several, well received gigs, and recently
supporting hardcore legend, HELLFISH (Death Chant Records). Abroad,
they have also
began to make an impact in Germany, having been billed with the
likes of Marc Acardipane, Catscan, and Rotterdam Terror Corps.
