Manga Corps
Manga corps
is a collaboration between French producers ‘Manu
Le Malin’ (Manu
Dauchez) and ‘Dr Macabre’ (Guillaume Leroux). These
Paris based Artists first released IST014 in 1995 and recently
did a follow up EP: ISL12 - ‘The Hunter remixes’.
Manu le Malin
A main character
of the international hardcore techno scene, Manu le Malin is
the symbol of the struggle of a musical genre for its own right
to live. He has overcome hardship and made his way in life since
this evening of 1991 where Manu, who was dragged along by friends,
discovered “raves”, their relaxed atmosphere and
their new music. ...more.
Dr.
Macabre
Guillaume – now a veteran of the French electronic music
scene – first got into music at 16 by arming himself with
a guitar and a drum machine and aping his favourite punk and alternative
groups: GBH, The Exploited, Les Béruriers Noirs and Ludwig
von 88. At the end of the 80s and after a short hip-hop phase,
he went to his first acid house and techno parties. He put on his
first gig in ’92. A few raves later, he brought out his first
LP on the legendary FNAC label (now known as F-COM) under the pseudonym “Lunatic
Asylum”. His second LP, which included the classic track “The
Meltdown” brought him to the forefront of the international
scene. The German magazine Frontpage voted him best live act and
best track in ’93 and he took advantage of the vogue for
trance until ’95, when he put down his first hardcore tracks
for the equally-legendary PCP label. 1996 saw the launch of Dr
Macabre which – thanks to the “Poltergeist” track – also
became an essential part of the hardcore scene worldwide, through
collaborations with top artists such as Marc Acardipane, Manu Le
Malin and Radium. After briefly being signed to the Megarave label
in Holland – and seeing even more success, notably with “Danse
Macabre” – he signed to the Epileptik label, on which
he brought out two electro albums (“The Hitman” and “The
Hitman II”), a live hardcore LP and a handful of EPs.
At the moment he divides his time between making electro-trip hop-industrial
music (with Lunatic Asylum) and music with an industrial-tinted
mid-tempo hardcore sound (with Dr Macabre).
